How Often Should You See a Chiropractor?

Written By Tracy & Keim Chiropractic LLC on February 8, 2023

Considering chiropractic care? It’s natural to wonder how often you should see a chiropractor, especially if you’ve never been before, or if you’re seeking treatment for a new condition. Is there a way to determine how many visits are best for you?

There’s no rule for how often someone should go to a chiropractor. It comes down to the type of symptoms you’re experiencing, as well as your own preferences. There are many reasons people seek chiropractic treatment, and each situation is different and will require a different number of treatments.

Common Reasons to Seek Chiropractic Treatment

Some of the most common reasons people visit their chiropractor are:

Preventive Treatment – If you’re involved in sports, are embarking on a new exercise regime, or are at risk of developing back pain (such as sitting for long hours in an office), it’s a good idea to make a regular visit with your chiropractor for preventive treatment. Treatments like this may be only once a month, but they can play a big role in protecting you from future injury and pain.

Rehabilitative Treatment – Most of us will experience injury at some point in our lives. While we often think of injury as the result of an auto accident or sports trauma, injuries can also occur just in day-to-day living. Exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle, but it can also cause damage if done incorrectly. And long periods of sitting, shoes with poor support, heavy backpacks, and other lifestyle factors can take a toll on your body. Chiropractic treatment will probably be more frequent, potentially multiple times a week, if it’s needed to help you heal from an injury.

Treatment for Chronic Pain – Sometimes, pain isn’t the result of an injury, but can flare up as the result of a health condition. In cases of chronic pain (often in the form of migraines, nerve pain, arthritis, or back pain), you may want to visit your chiropractor whenever you have a flareup, simply as a natural and effective means of pain relief.

Other Reasons to Visit Your Chiropractor

Of course, preventing or treating pain isn’t the only reason to make an appointment with your chiropractor. Chiropractors focus on holistic health, and because their work with the spine also connects closely with the body’s central nervous system, they may be able to help with many other health conditions or risk factors.

Other health problems like insomnia or digestive trouble may not spring immediately to mind when you think about things your chiropractor can help you with, but chiropractic treatment can often help with these types of issues as well. A chiropractor can also help you learn healthy lifestyle habits and make other suggestions to improve your well-being.

Because every patient is different, it’s a good idea to consult with your chiropractor about how often you should visit. Weekly or monthly visits are often the most beneficial for preventive treatment, while other situations should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis in order to help you reap the most benefit. Your chiropractor can design a treatment plan for your unique situation and help you decide how often you should come in for an adjustment.

Have questions? The best way to get them answered—and get yourself on the road to better health—is to call our office and set up an appointment. During your first visit, we’ll discuss your health-related concerns, as well as potential treatment options. Even if you’re not sure what the problem is, and only know you’re experiencing pain or not feeling your best, the doctor will ask you questions and perform tests to zero in on the problem and provide an effective treatment plan.

After your consultation, you can usually be provided with your first treatment at Tracy and Keim on the same visit. We want to help you start feeling better as soon as possible! We’ll also provide you with instructions for home care, if needed, and advise you on the ideal number of follow-up visits for appropriate care.

Even though every person is different, you don’t have to wonder about how often you should see a chiropractor. We can help you decide how many visits to the chiropractor would be ideal given your personal health and preferences. Call us for a consultation today.
